A couple sits on a sofa; the man comforts the woman who is holding a pregnancy test and looks concerned.

She Just Said “I’m Pregnant.”

PARTNER IS PREGNANT? WHAT TO DO NEXT

You’re having an ordinary day when you get a text: “We need to talk.”

You meet up. She says, “I’m pregnant.”

You might’ve expected it. You might be in shock. Either way, take a breath — you have time.

Here’s what helps most guys in this moment: slow down, listen, and get facts before decisions.

FIRST STEPS WHEN YOUR PARTNER IS PREGNANT

1. First, just be there

You don’t need the perfect words. You don’t need a plan yet.

What helps: “Thanks for telling me. I’m here.” Then listen.

She might be scared, excited, numb, or all three. You don’t have to fix it right now.

2. Get clarity together, if she wants that

free pregnancy test and ultrasound appointment at We Care Pregnancy Clinic can confirm 3 things:

  • Is the pregnancy in the uterus?
  • Is there a heartbeat?
  • How far along is she?

That info helps you both understand options. No-cost. Confidential. No pressure.  If she’s ready, text 815.780.9097 to schedule. She’ll need her name, date of birth, and the first day of her last period.

3. Bring in support, but only if you both agree

Some couples tell a trusted friend or family member. Some don’t. You set the pace.

If you do reach out, pick someone who can stay calm and listen, not push an agenda.

4. Small things that show her that you’re in it

Pregnancy changes a lot. If she’s thinking about continuing the pregnancy, these help:

  • If she’s quitting alcohol, smoking, or other substances, don’t use them around her. It’s one way to say “I’m with you” without a speech.
  • Encourage water and rest right now. Stress is real for both of you.
  • Give her space if she asks for it. “I’m here when you’re ready” goes a long way.

5. You don’t have to have answers today

Afterward, we’ll go over what the nurse saw. There’s no rush. No agenda. You can ask questions, or just sit with the info. We also offer accurate information on all your pregnancy options because you deserve facts without pressure.

Again, this appointment is yours and you can talk as much or as little as you want to.

6. What happens next is up to you

This is big. It’s okay to feel overwhelmed. It’s okay to not know what to do yet..
You can talk with someone at We Care, whether it’s together or separate.

We’ll listen, give you accurate info, and never pressure you. You’re safe here.

You are not alone.
