Your period is a few days late and for some reason, you gagged at the sight of your eggs this morning. And all you want to do is sleep.  Separately, these things wouldn’t make you pause. But now you are suspecting that you might be pregnant.  If pregnancy would be unexpected at this point, it might be an overwhelming thought.

Maybe you’ve had a feeling that you could be pregnant and have been secretly counting the days.  Perhaps you already took an at-home test and saw those two little lines appear.  You might be wondering what you should do next. Feeling unsure about your next steps is normal in the face of the unexpected. Here are a few practical things you can do.

TALK TO SOMEONE

  • Confide in someone you trust, if you feel comfortable. This will help you not to feel alone.
  • Reach out to We Care Pregnancy Clinic.  We’re here to provide a free pregnancy test and an early, limited ultrasound to confirm your pregnancy. Our client advocates are ready to give you fact-based information so you can consider all your options.  We also offer a listening ear to help you process your feelings and sort out your concerns. You’re not alone in this. You can contact We Care by texting 815.780.9097. When you contact We Care Pregnancy Clinic, have your name, date of birth, and the first day of your last menstrual period handy as you schedule your appointment.

TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF

  • If you suspect you may be pregnant, it’s important to abstain from consuming alcohol, smoking, or any illegal substances. It can also be beneficial to cut down on caffeine.
  • Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and getting rest if possible. Taking care of yourself will benefit your baby and help alleviate some stress and anxiety you could be feeling.

THINK ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS:

  • Take some time to consider your feelings. Acknowledge anything that makes you feel afraid or worried. Reflection is good and will help you have a good perspective as you make decisions.
  • Take some time to think about your goals. Many people can tell that they are pregnant very early in their pregnancy. At the time of your first missed period, you would be considered four weeks pregnant. If this is you, you do have time to think through your options, get information, and decide what is best for you. You have time.

Remember, you’re not alone in this. There are many resources, including We Care Pregnancy Clinic, ready to help if you’re experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. Text our helpline at 815.780.9097 for an appointment to confirm your pregnancy and to speak with someone about your options.
